Developed alongside renowned classical recording engineer Tony Faulkner, the Rode TF-5 MP pairs two black, cardioid small-diaphragm condenser microphones that have been matched at the factory for consistent output and phase coherence. That matching matters most in stereo work—orchestral sections, piano, acoustic guitar, hand percussion, or overhead drum arrays—where any mismatch between capsules can smear imaging or shift tonal balance between channels.
Each capsule is engineered for a cardioid pattern that tightens directional pickup and keeps room ambience from overwhelming the source, useful when you want a cleaner, more focused stereo picture without heavy post-processing. JFET-based active circuitry gives the pair a flat, extended frequency response with low self-noise, while still allowing headroom for SPLs up to 120 dB—enough to sit near louder acoustic sources without strain. Standard 48V phantom power runs the electronics, so there’s no battery drain to worry about mid-session.
For mounting, the set includes mic clips plus an SB20 stereo bar with printed angle and spacing markers, letting you dial in ORTF or X/Y arrays on a single stand rather than juggling two separate mic positions. The mics themselves are small and light, so the assembly stays stable on anything from a lightweight boom to a heavier studio stand. Windscreens are also included to cut down on wind noise or HVAC rumble during location or live-room tracking.
