The AT2040 borrows its DNA from Audio-Technica’s BP40 broadcast microphone, scaling that pedigree down into an affordable dynamic mic aimed squarely at podcasters, streamers, and voiceover artists. Its large-diaphragm dynamic element produces a full, natural tone with the low self-noise you want on spoken-word recordings, while the hypercardioid polar pattern draws a tight circle around your voice, rejecting sound from the sides and rear so room reflections and nearby chatter stay out of the mix.
Internally, a multistage windscreen pairs a non-woven filter layer with foam mesh to tame plosives and breath noise right at the capsule, cutting down on the need for an external pop filter. The mic also has a shockmount built into its body, so knocks and vibration traveling up a boom arm or desktop stand get absorbed before they ever hit the diaphragm.
