Description
Heil Sound designed the PR48 specifically for bass drum duty, building it around a 1.5″ large-diaphragm dynamic capsule housed in a vulcanized shock mount that isolates it from unwanted vibration and pedal noise. A custom low-pass filter shapes the low end with a +10dB boost between 50-100Hz, landing right in the sweet spot where kick drums produce their fundamental thump. Up top, a +4dB presence bump from 3.5kHz to 5kHz brings out beater attack and stick click, while response falls off sharply above 8.5kHz to keep internal drum resonances and rattle out of the signal.
With a cardioid pattern offering -40dB of rejection at 180 degrees off-axis, the PR48 stays focused on the drum in front of it rather than bleed from nearby kit pieces or stage wash. It’s built to take a beating too – literally – handling up to +148dB SPL without breaking a sweat, so close-miking even the heaviest hitters is no problem.
This bundle pairs the mic with a Jamstands kick drum stand for quick, stable positioning inside or in front of the shell, plus a 20-foot XLR cable so you’ve got everything needed to get it plugged into your snake or interface without a trip to the cable drawer.
