The Earthworks DK7 hands you a full complement of drum microphones drawn from a brand built on transparency rather than coloration. Rather than shaping the sound of each drum, these mics aim to reproduce it faithfully – whether you’re tracking in the studio or running front-of-house.
The kit’s core is four DM20 cardioid condensers, designed to sit close on snare and toms via included rim mounts. Their cardioid capsules stay even-handed across the pickup field, so moving slightly off-axis won’t change the tone you’re capturing. Rejection at the rear runs past 30 dB, which goes a long way toward keeping hi-hat out of your snare mic or snare out of your tom channel.
Two SR25 cardioid condensers handle overhead duties, delivering the same uniform, uncolored pickup across the kit as a whole, while a dedicated SR20LS takes on kick drum – built specifically to cope with the pressure and low-end demands unique to that source.
Because Earthworks mics reject sound cleanly rather than through frequency-dependent tricks, tracks come out easier to mix and less prone to phase-y buildup when everything’s combined. Rim mounts, mic clips, windscreens, and a rugged carrying case round out the package, keeping everything organized and protected between sessions or shows.
