Description
The Earthworks SR20 brings studio-grade clarity to live and recorded vocals, thanks to a precision electret condenser capsule and a near-perfect cardioid pattern that Earthworks has patented for uniformity. Rather than the uneven off-axis coloration typical of many cardioid mics, the SR20 stays flat and consistent across the entire front hemisphere—even at 90 degrees off-axis—so a singer moving on the mic won’t hear their tone change.
That consistency translates directly into more usable gain before feedback, since rear rejection stays high and side pickup remains true. Up close, the SR20 sounds full-bodied without turning boomy, and its windscreen assembly is engineered to tame plosives on P’s and B’s without dulling detail.
Removing the windscreen reveals a second personality: a wider pickup pattern suited to choirs, group vocals, or acoustic instruments like piano, guitar, drums, brass, and woodwinds. Combined with a 145dB SPL handling capability, this makes the SR20 equally comfortable close-mic’ing a snare or capturing an ensemble from a distance.
