The BH-1 sits at the entry point of JZ Microphones’ Black Hole Series, but it carries the same core capsule technology found throughout the line. Two 27mm diaphragms are coated using JZ’s patented variable sputtering method, a specially mixed alloy application that the company credits for the mic’s noted clarity and open, transparent character. Engineers who’ve tracked vocals through it often point to a smoothness that avoids harshness even at close range.
Three switchable polar patterns — Omni, Cardioid, and Figure-8 — give the BH-1 real flexibility beyond straightforward vocal duty. Drop into Cardioid for focused, off-axis-rejecting vocal or instrument capture, open up to Omni for room-inclusive ambience, or switch to Figure-8 for mid-side and interview-style setups where rear pickup matters.
Physically, the mic is compact and understated, finished with an original stand-holder damper system designed to isolate the capsule from handling and stand-borne vibration.
