Neumann shrank the classic TLM footprint without shrinking the performance. The TLM 102 carries the brand’s signature look – polished grille ring, unmistakable silhouette – in a smaller, more affordable body, making it an easy entry point into large-diaphragm Neumann sound.
At its core sits a newly engineered large-diaphragm capsule with cardioid pickup, elastically mounted to reject handling and stand-borne vibration. Its headline number is a 144 dB maximum SPL rating, so close-miking drums, guitar cabs, brass, or percussion is fair game without distortion. Response stays essentially flat up to 6 kHz, keeping bass and midrange honest, then rises gently above that point – a deliberate presence lift that flatters vocals and spoken word by pushing them forward in a mix. Transient response is quick enough to catch detail on quieter sources too. An integrated pop screen built into the grille tames plosives directly, without a separate accessory.
Because it’s transformerless and priced accessibly, the TLM 102 fits comfortably into home studios, project spaces, and broadcast booths alike – particularly useful anywhere a clear sightline to the talent matters.
