Description
The M80 was engineered by TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik as a direct answer to the mid-forward, boxy tone that dominates most stage dynamics. Instead, it offers a broader frequency window and higher SPL headroom, letting it capture vocals with a clarity and openness usually associated with studio condensers — all while retaining the toughness dynamic mics are known for.
Tone and Feel
A low-mass capsule with an unusually thin membrane gives the M80 fast transient response and a nuanced, expressive vocal pickup. Its head and capsule geometry are tuned to tame proximity effect, so low end stays controlled and clean rather than muddy. The result is a sound engineers describe as open and airy, with plenty of vocal authority but none of the upper-midrange harshness or feedback-prone honk common in typical stage mics.
What’s Inside
At the heart of the M80 is an American-made, custom-wound transformer paired with TELEFUNKEN’s proprietary capsule design — the combination responsible for the mic’s fast rise to favorite status among touring and studio engineers alike.
Build
A black powder-coated body pairs with a striking chrome-plated headgrille, giving the M80 the durability required for heavy road use along with unmistakable stage presence.
