Description
The Telefunken M81 rounds out Elektroakustik’s dynamic mic lineup, picking up where the popular M80 left off. Rather than duplicate that mic’s bright, detailed voice, the engineering team pulled back the top-end response to create something flatter overall — a dynamic that leans toward warmth and weight instead of sizzle.
What carries over from the M80 is what made it a go-to in the first place: low proximity effect, strong rejection of feedback, and a mid-range that stays articulate under pressure. The M81 pairs those traits with a smoother high end, which makes it especially handy for taming vocals or guitar amps that already run hot, or for filling out horns, percussion, and other sources that need extra body.
On the studio and stage floor, it earns its keep on electric guitar cabs, rack and floor toms, and brass — anywhere a rugged, versatile capsule is needed. Telefunken also tuned the M81’s response with its R-F-T AR-51 in mind, so the two work well together on guitar tracking. Cosmetically, the M81 shares the AR-51’s flint gray body and tri-chrome grille, making it easy to spot in a mic locker.
