The Earthworks M23 belongs to the M Series, long regarded as a go-to choice for engineers who need trustworthy, affordable measurement data without sacrificing accuracy in either the time or frequency domain. It stays consistent across shifting temperatures and atmospheric conditions, and its fast impulse response means transient detail comes through cleanly, with minimal noise introduced by handling.
Originally developed as an upgraded successor to EAW’s SMAARTMIC, the M23 is purpose-built for acoustical analysis: setting up sound systems, diagnosing room acoustics, or capturing genuine free-field readings. Its omnidirectional capsule delivers flat response, quick transient tracking, and dependable polar behavior, making it compatible with measurement platforms like SMAART, MLSSA, Spectrafoo, and TEF, as well as systems from dbx and DEQX. It’s built to meet or exceed ANSI Type 1 and IEC 61094 standards.

Every M23 ships with its own calibration chart documenting individually measured open-circuit sensitivity and frequency response, and an electronic calibration file is also available. Earthworks recommends re-calibration every five years to keep readings on point.
