Description
The AT4081 brings the smooth, natural character prized in classic ribbon microphones into a modern, road-worthy package. Audio-Technica builds each unit by hand, corrugating, imprinting, and assembling the dual-ribbon element to exacting tolerances before it ever leaves the factory. The result is a figure-eight (bidirectional) capsule that captures rich, musical detail without the harshness that can plague lesser transducers.
At the heart of the mic sits Audio-Technica’s proprietary MicroLinear ribbon imprint, part of an 18-patents-pending transducer design that shields the twin ribbons from lateral flexing and distortion. Backing that up are potent N50 neodymium magnets for strong output, plus a superfine mesh screen that keeps the delicate ribbon safe from accidental damage. Because the electronics are active and phantom-powered, the AT4081 maintains stable impedance and pushes out enough signal to play nicely with virtually any mic preamp — no need for extra clean gain or inline boosters.
Its slim, low-profile stick shape opens up placement possibilities that bulkier ribbon mics can’t match, making it a natural choice for horns, strings, orchestral sections, drum overheads, and guitar cabinets alike. Whether you’re tracking in a treated studio or running sound on a live stage, the AT4081 handles high-SPL sources with an extended frequency response that stays true to the instrument.
