At the heart of the pack is the X1S itself, built around a hand-crafted capsule assembled and voiced by experienced technicians in sE’s own capsule workshop. That craftsmanship carries through to a fully redesigned internal circuit that pushed the original X1 formula further: expect the widest dynamic range in its price class, noticeably lower self-noise, and SPL handling rated up to 160dB, so it won’t choke on loud sources.
Versatility comes from two sets of switches on the mic body. A pair of attenuation pads (-10dB and -20dB) let you close-mic aggressive sources like distorted guitar cabs, blasting horns, or a heavy-hitting kick drum without overloading the capsule. Two low-cut filter positions, at 80Hz and 160Hz, tame room rumble, footsteps, and the bass buildup that comes from working in tight to a source.
Build quality matches the electronics: an all-metal body shields against RF and electrical interference while giving the mic a finish meant to last, and a gold-plated XLR connector keeps the signal path solid for years of sessions.
This particular pack rounds out the mic with a shock mount to isolate it from stand-transmitted vibration, a metal pop filter to control breath blasts on vocals, and a 3-meter cable so you’re covered from mic to interface or preamp.
