Power flexibility is built in: run it on phantom power for professional mixers and recorders, or switch to a single AA battery when you’re pairing it with consumer-grade or handheld digital recorders. A switchable low-frequency roll-off (80 Hz, 12 dB/octave) helps tame wind noise and handling rumble on location, and the frequency response spans 20 Hz to 15 kHz for a full, natural capture.
Audio-Technica ships the AT8022 with two output cables so it adapts to whatever gear you’re plugging into — a balanced cable terminating in dual 3-pin XLRM connectors for pro rigs, and an unbalanced cable with a 3.5mm TRS connector for consumer devices. Additional specs include channel balance under 2.5 dB, a signal-to-noise ratio of 75 dB, and a maximum SPL of 128 dB (phantom) or 120 dB (battery).
