Description
This listing is a demo unit, gently used, offering the full performance of the Heil PR 22 at a value price. Heil designed the PR 22 to move dynamic microphone technology past decades-old designs still common in the industry, aiming it squarely at live sound, broadcast, and studio recording alike.
At the heart of the PR 22 is a large 1-1/8″ low-mass diaphragm paired with a neodymium-iron-boron magnet structure, one of the strongest magnet assemblies used in a dynamic capsule. The result is a smooth, linear cardioid pickup pattern with up to 40dB of rear rejection, keeping off-axis bleed and stage noise out of the signal while avoiding the harsh proximity buildup common in ball-style vocal mics.
Heil’s engineering background in communications microphones (the company has built them since 1982) shows in the PR 22’s attention to phase coherence. That translates into articulate upper-midrange detail, making it a strong choice for lead vocals on stage, while its extended frequency response and dynamic range also make it effective on snare drum and guitar cabinets.
A key innovation is the ISO BAND suspension, a Sorbothane-based mounting system that tames handling noise in the 50-100Hz range without sacrificing the low end of the frequency response, unlike many competing mics that simply roll off below 125Hz. The PR 22 can also handle sound pressure levels approaching 150dB, giving it serious headroom for loud stage and studio sources.
