The Heil PR30 pushes dynamic microphone design past the decades-old formulas most competitors still rely on. Its oversized dynamic capsule delivers a smooth, extended frequency response with an unusually rich upper midrange, which is why so many guitarists reach for it first when miking cabinets. Vocalists get plenty out of it too, thanks to a low-noise floor and generous headroom that lets it soak up high SPL sources without strain.
Heil’s decades of experience building broadcast and communications mics shows up in the PR30’s phase control. The cardioid pattern is tightly managed, offering strong rear rejection so off-axis noise stays out of the signal. A large, low-mass diaphragm paired with a neodymium-iron-boron magnet structure gives the capsule both sensitivity and a wide dynamic range. Close-talking is handled cleanly too — a dual-mesh screen design combined with an internal breath filter keeps plosives and sibilance in check without dulling the top end.
Mechanically, the element sits in a shock-mounted, non-resonant fixture inside a steel body, isolating it from handling noise and vibration. An internal hum-bucking coil also makes it safe to use near lighting rigs or monitor wedges without picking up electrical interference.
