The Heil PR40 is a dynamic microphone built to push past the usual limits of the category, delivering a frequency range wide enough to compete head-to-head with condenser mics while still shrugging off punishing sound pressure levels. It’s equally at home tracking vocals in the studio, working a broadcast booth, or standing up to the rigors of live performance.
Heil Sound has spent decades refining phase behavior in communications microphones, and that expertise shows in the PR40’s cardioid pattern—rear rejection is tight and consistent, keeping off-axis noise and bleed out of the signal. Inside, a large low-mass diaphragm pairs with a neodymium-iron-boron magnet structure (among the strongest available) to give the mic exceptional dynamic range and a naturally articulate voice character that’s become a Heil hallmark.
A dual-mesh screen design combined with an internal breath blast filter lets vocalists and announcers work close to the capsule without worrying about pops or harsh sibilance. The element itself is shock-mounted on a non-resonant fixture inside a heavy steel body, and an internal hum-bucking coil keeps electrical noise at bay—so the PR40 stays clean even near lighting rigs or monitor wedges.
