Description
The M81-SH takes the acclaimed tonal signature of Telefunken’s handheld M81 and packages it into a low-profile body designed for spaces a full-size mic simply can’t fit into. Think snare hoops, guitar cabinets, brass bells, and drummer or keyboard-player vocal positions where a standard mic body gets in the way. This updated version is roughly 40% lighter and about 10% shorter than its predecessor, with vibration-dampening construction and a finish that matches Telefunken’s handheld line for a cohesive look on stage or in the booth.
Inside, the M81-SH uses a custom-wound impedance-matching transformer and a Supercardioid capsule tuned for smooth, condenser-like response with strong midrange articulation—ideal for capturing the detail in brass, woodwinds, and percussion. The tight polar pattern keeps proximity effect in check and rejects off-axis bleed, which matters when mics are packed close together around a kit or amp line. It handles high SPL sources with the same composure as its handheld counterpart, so it won’t choke on a cranked snare or a loud horn section.
A built-in mount and the compact shell make positioning faster and less fussy than wrangling a full-length handheld mic into a clip. A right-angle XLR cable is included, which helps keep cable runs tidy in cramped miking setups.
